iOS device not allowing audio in

Hello.
I am using 12 Lite on macOS.
I have tried both an iPad Pro and an iPhone to use them as audio in devices into Ableton with no luck.
Per several videos I have enabled the devices in midi setup and Ableton does actually see them as input devices and I can indeed select the iOS devices as input.
However when I create a new audio track and try to monitor the audio in I do not get any audio from iOS devices.
I’ve been at this for hours now and I think I might be going mad…. Any help welcome.
