Live licence renewal

Hi all new here so I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this.
I own an Ableton 8 suite licence and have an upgrade available for Ableton 12, but the Iaptop I'm using won't run 12. I'm not that flush atm due to being out of work with a serious knee condition and can't afford too upgrade my pc, only the £170 for the licence upgrade.
I've recently got back into my music due to having a lot more spare time now and have been using live 8. The thing is, live 10 will run ok on my laptop, and I've noticed that there's a few more features in live 10 that I'd like to use.
Does anybody know if i buy the live 12 licence updrade, it would work in live 10 until I'm able to uprade my pc.
Any help would be much appreciated.
