How to record with phone

Post by kesara » Mon Apr 21, 2025 12:07 am

I like to record with phone.
But so far I’ve only been able to record the sounds from move speaker.
Is there a way to record while from phone while monitoring the sounds?
Or what’s the best way to record your performance with phone?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on your phone and software.

If your Move is fully updated you can connect a USBC from the Move to whatever your phone uses and put the Move in USBC interface mode as described here:

On Move, go to Setup → USB-C Audio and select Main Out

I use an adapter that allows me to use the supplied USBC to USBA cable to plug it into my phone.

I frequently use just the voice memo recorder for quick sketches, or an IOS DAW like GarageBand if I'm in the mood for multitrack or post processing.

You can monitor using the headphone jack on the Move while you record.

Thanks!
Setting USB Audio to Mains Out did the trick.

Hey mate,
Does your phone have a lightning input or a usb-c input?
Mine is an iPhone 13 mini with lightning and can’t figure out how to record the Move into my phone.

If you do have a lightning input would you mind explaining which cables you’re using?

Thanks for your help!

Apple camera adapter:

Use a USB-C to USB3 cable. Allows you to charge your phone while you use your devices, though it doesn't provide adequate bus power to charge the Move, so keep it charged first. Works with class compliant interfaces and other peripherals also.

Thanks so much for getting back to me.
Just to make sure we’re on the same page, I have tried with this Apple camera adapter with no success.
Main out set on usb, etc

You’re confident that your suggestion will work? Have you tried it?
Thanks again :)

It appears that the Apple MD821ZMA Lightning to USB Camera Adapter you linked to is USB 2.0 (4 pin).

Use a USB 3.0 (9 pin) adapter like the one I suggested. You will also need a USBA to USB-C cable. Sometimes USB cables are power only, so get one that has data.

I have verified that the MX5J3AM works with my iPhone 14.
