PUSH3: Drum/Note View on one track while Controlling another

I am sure I used to be able to do this on PUSH2 (don't have it with me so can't confirm), but I want to be able to have the Pads in Note/Drum view (mainly Drum view), so that I can be, setting up drum clips, and using repeat with the 4x4 pads etc AND have the Rotaries on the top, controlling the Macros 1-8, of a different Track.

Is this possible, it seems like a crazy limitation.

My use case is, jamming some drum parts live and recording clips, changing loop parts etc with a Drum rack, WHILST ALSO tweaking the mapped parameters from a VST that is playing on another track.

(As I said, I think I could do this before on Push2, and that might have been because I could FORCE some changes using the Push Control Script and Clyphx Pro...sadly no longer possible.....HUGE loss for me).
