Is it possible to "slice to new midi track" to a grouped sampler?

I know you can go into the User Library/Defaults/Slicing folder and drop in options to select for "slice to new midi track", but it seems if I drag a grouped sampler in there (just meaning that I cmd/ctrl + G on the sampler to get some macro knobs pre-mapped), it doesn't seem to like it. It will give me a drum rack with some pre-mapped macros, which is the same result as dragging in a stock empty drum rack.
My real ultimate goal here is to have a slicing default that gives me a drum rack with a grouped sampler inside each cell. This is possible to do in the "dropping samples" defaults folder, but not "slicing". A plain grouped sampler outside of a drum rack doesn't work either though, so I figure if I could solve that I could then move to getting it working inside a drum rack.
As a temporary workaround, my idea is that I could just "slice" with a different method, just a plain sampler, and then move those slices to my actual preferred instrument (Drum rack -> Grouped Sampler). It seems like the only way to accomplish this though is to slice to a sampler, go into the zone editor, select all the slices and do right click -> crop sample so that all my slices end up in "Samples/Processed/Crop". Then I can drag them one by one into my drum rack/sampler setup. Aside from the fact that this just takes more time, it also is a bit more limiting because then I can't adjust the start/stop markers beyond their crop.
So my questions are, is there any way to slice to a grouped sampler that I'm missing? If not, is there any better way to accomplish my workaround? I'm aware I could just slice my samples in the arrangement view and drag them from there, but if I want to slice by transients this becomes a problem.
