Buffer size vs. CPU capacity?

Hey guys,

So I had issues with my UR-12 interface, so I Replaced it with a Focusrite Scarlett solo. Also running live 12.

I Have a HP laptop running 64 bit window OS with the following specs:

i5 6500U @ 2.4 GHz
32 GB RAM
128MB Graphics card - GPU?
1.5 TB partitioned, so i keep the system side clear

I don't have any background processes btw, but if I play my project file (which I had previously created, so it was playable at some point.. with my old interface not sure)

My output sample rate is 44100. buffer 2200 ish but If i play the file it sounds like theres a volume LFO on the output signal, so i mess with the buffer and sample rate but it all goes to shit.

Also looked into drivers and downloaded the Focusrite Control app, so i can set the bit rate so it is the same as Ableton, but that didnt do it either..

is this a PC issue? looking for advice, thanks :)

Also side note- if i unplug my USB feeding the audio interface and then my monitors, and just play off of the laptop speakers or headphones, the project plays fine.. so it has to do with bit rate / CPU / buffer / not sure

And also, the more I think of it, this may have been after I updated to 12.. because I do use headphones when im on the go. so maybe I trashed a UR12 for nothing lol i had it for years, I figured it had died.. But this Focus rite is doing the same thing lol.. Now that im back in the studio trying to get things set up, nothing is working aha y'all know how it goes

Usually people use ASIO drivers on windows. If you installed the drivers for the audio interface, there is probably an option to select focusrite ASIO drivers. That should be the most clear and low latency option.

Like yur2die4 wrote, ASIO is definitly the way to go.
