I would like to be able to use an audio delay effect plugin via MIDI. It's not a MIDI effect, and I don't want to use a controller. I'd like to punch in MIDI notes in the piano roll. You can do this in Logic by opening the plugin as an 'AU MIDI-Controlled Effect' and then routing audio from a different channel. Does Ableton offer comparable functionality?

I generally only use Live for live performances and compose in Logic, so I'm not that savvy with it.

If I’m not mistaken, you can create a new midi track, and route the output to the channel that has the effects plugin within it.

Then the dropdown below that allows you to select Which device and which input of that device to route the midi track to.

Okay, the routing was a little confusing but I figured it out. Posting for posterity.

1. Create two MIDI tracks

2. Place an instrument and a MIDI-enabled audio effect on the first track

3. On the second track, place some MIDI in a clip (in the piano roll).
-Click on the menu bar under MIDI To and change it to your first track
-Under Track In, choose the audio effect from the dropdown menu

4. On the first track, write a MIDI clip

5. Play the clips from both tracks
