Any way to "lock" 16 pitches?

Sometimes I just like using the Move as a finger-drumming box, and I think it'd be really cool if you could "lock" 16 pitches to a sample so that you could keep playing a melody on the right side while triggering samples for a beat on the left. Right now, I believe 16 pitches changes to the last pad you play on the drum rack.
So is this something that is already possible and I missed it (totally possible, since I'm very new to the Move)? Alternately, is this a feature other people would use?
