I use this feature all the time, especially with BFD3, and sometimes EZDrummer 2, i.e dragging a MIDI groove from the plugin into a clip slot or arrangement in Live.

It seems to be an issue with Live, since it still works fine in Cubase.

I've tried running Live as an administrator, as some have suggested, and tweaked various settings in both Live and the plugins but no difference..

Anyone else encountered this and have any suggestions?

What virtual instrument player do you have assigned to the track you're dropping the MIDI file into and is it configured correctly for your audio interface?

I drag the MIDI clips from the BFD3 and EZdrummer interfaces into the Ableton track they're on (doesn't work onto an empty MIDI track either). Can't see how it would have anything to do with my audio interface? Everything else works perfectly, seems to be some conflict in Ableton with just this functionality, and it's always worked before. Dragging in a MIDI or audio file from a folder on my computer still works though.

It's been fixed in the last beta AFAIK.

Just tried the latest beta and it still doesn't work for me unfortunately..

Can you try the VST3 version of those plugins instead? Does that work?
I've tested using the VST3 and it works for me, but I don't have a VST2 version installed so I can't test with that.

Please let me know the results.

I haven't updated BFD to 3.5 which is the only version that supports VST3 AFAIK. It seems to create lots of issues for users with older projects not loading etc. Might consider it if it's the only option but it's strange though that it used to work fine with drag and drop MIDI in Live and still works in Cubase with the VST2 version. So it seems there must be something else that happened? Have Ableton dropped support for MIDI drag and drop in VST2 plugins maybe?

works just fine with Microtonic on Mac (ventura), all versions (AU, VST2, VST3), Live 12.2.1

It's not clear to me when MIDI dropping stopped working for you. I only see you mentioning 'I haven't updated BFD to 3.5'.
Was it after updating Live to 12.2.5? I suppose so... Pretty essential info imo.

Interesting. I have Mictrotonic as well, just tried it, VST3 works with dragging but not VST2. Also, just upgraded EZdrummer to v3 to get the VST3 plugin, it works.

I don't know exactly when it stoppped working since I don't use these in every project but it was earlier than 12.2.5, early summer/spring sometime. I associate it with installing the beta for 12.2 somewhere around then but it might be unrelated.
