LIVE 5 won't load

Mac 1.4 Gig OWC mercury upgraded computer (was originally an Mac G4 400 AGP. I'm running OSX10.28 Jaguar. 1.25 Gb of Ram.
I use a Digi001 audio interface using the latest CoreAudio 6.12
drive from Digidesign for the Digi001. ProTools 6.12le.

I can't seem to get Live 5 past a message of "Live has unexpectedly quit" after about 5 seconds of trying to boot time. I've read and tried everything I could see in FAQ? Trash preferences, Repair disk permissions, move the vst plugin's.

Contacted tech support they don't seem to have any answers? Sent the crash log. No comment. Move the plugin's no difference about whether I'll even get to the unlock.

On one of the forums I was advised to try making new user account. That works to open it once and if I'm online to unlock. Once and only once. Won't remember preferences, Audio interface in and outs etc. Trash and make a new user account to open once. So that's no solution. I need it to open in my main account. I'm the only user, and just one computer.

I have Reaon and Guitar Rig. I downloaded the latest version of Guitar Rig. They seemed to think that was the problem. I had to use my 2nd install as Guitar Rig has become somehow unregistered. Also I can't find my Guitar Rig library and no factory content is showing up. Anyway I digress. Doesn't seem to be the problem of why LIVE 5 won't load in my main user account or in any user accounts more then the initial once and using my registration number to unlock while online.

I used Carbon copy to copy OSX to my AA drive and then back again so I could defrag and get rid of OS9 and the partition it had on the drive. Maybe that's where the NI GRig registration went I don't know. All the problems I have about loading Live 5 were happening before I did that though. Just thought cleaning up my main drive would help. No difference. that I could see.

I'm about to switch to a Fireface 800 and I want to completely reinitialize the system. I think???? I think some of this might have to do with the Digi001 and older versions of OS and Coredrivers. Anyway I want to remove the Digi stuff from my system completely. Just to make sure. 3rd partty apps?? I don't know where the problems are coming from really. I just want to start from scratch. I'm concerned about the authorizations and unistalls. I"M NO SOFTWARE THIEF.

I've got 5 drives in action. Anyone of them I might use for the new system drive. Also what happens later when I change computers, I'm seriously going to being changing to a new Computer system in the future. My Mac has historically not given me much problems. I'll keep it for everything else and get a new one just for audio. I don't know if I'll go Mac G5, laptop, maybe I'll get one of the those AMD systems. I'm not sure on that part yet. I'm very concerned about authorizations, installs, and how easily to move it to another setup. My Itunes library for example. Any advice about that stuff or point me in that direction would be greatly appreciated.

But I digress anyone know what might be the problem why my G4 won't open LIVE 5. I'm still using Live 4 but it's been acting strange and locking up the play bar too. Close the song file reopen and the play bar works all right.

I love Live it beats the hell out of ProTools as a composition tool. I just want it to work.

I have been having a similar problem, except, I can't even open previous versions of Live and it won't open once on a new user account. I've been in contact with support but they seam to be shooting in the dark.

I'm taking the Digi 00I out.

Never did generate any preferences again in the locations you asked me about. I guess it does't even open that far.

I do remember that initially there were some preferences in a location for live I deleted. I'm not sure that I remember now but they may have been in a different location? then you pointed me to??

Anyhow I do know that deleting them made no difference at the time?

The console log programs seem to have a lot of reference to ATI monitor before it seemed to lead to a loop and then end.

I finally have the RME Fireface 800 and OSX Tiger. So I'm cloning my main drive and going to format new. As stated above.

Do you know if I uninstall Live, Reason, NI Guitar Rig, Waves etc. through some uninstall program? I guess I'll have to read each manual first before I go further. I haven't had to do this so completely before.

I have the G4 400 AGP upgraded to OWC 1.4 Gig Hz with 1.25 G of Ram as stated above. I also have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac version AGP card I installed.

Previously I've put a Stealth serial interface in the old modem port for my serial Motu Midi Timepiece AV which I'm not using currently because I'm using a newer Motu Microlite with USB 2.0 card. Should I pull out the Stealth serial card?

Also I guess I'm going to download the newest driver for the ATI card. I'm kind of curious when I should install the new software for the ATI card. I guess I better visit that site first.

I'm just trying to have this go off without a hitch of course. I've got the next few days hopefully to get this all sorted out?

Any information would be much appreciated.

I finally got live to open. it turned out to be caused by a setting in Stuffit Expanders preferences that set permissions, for any version of live, when it was expanding five after i downloaded it, that wouldn't allow it to open. I trashed Stuffit and its preferences and reinstalled Live and everything has been fine.

This may not have anything to do with other peoples situation, but it may be useful information if you couldn't open live after downloading it.

success

I'm a happy camper. Loaded OSX Tiger. RME fireface, etc. Reason 3.04, NI Guitar Rig 1.2.1, Motu Microite, Live the latest beta and everything loaded is running perfect. And what a speed increase. Which may be an indication of how botched my system was at the last. Anyway initial success couldn't be better.
What an excellent operating system Tiger is. Very intuitive. I already like it much better then the Jaguar I was using.
Live with the freeze thing was worth the trip alone for me.
