Live 4 midi and hardware synths

can anyone help me out?
I can't seem to "control" my hardware synths via live!
When i record a midi clip and let it play(let's say a lead sound from my yamaha cs6x) i can't "tweak" the filter when live/the clip is playing.
I can see that the midi data(CC 74)entering live(little green square in upper right corner)but live doesn't let it thru!
When i select a midi track and put the monitoring from auto to on, i can play sounds and use the controllers, but when the clip is recorded and i exit the "record" mode i can't seem to control the filter.
Is this just a general problem with live?(i'm fairly new te the program)or am i doing things wrong?
Other programs like logic and cubase just put incoming midi data thru on the selected track, and i can "twaek" filters , effects in real time via midi while the sequenser is playing.
any ideas how to accomplisch this in live 4?

P4 2.0Ghz / 512DDR / M-audio Delta 1010lt / emagic amt8 / yamaha rm1x / yamaha cs6x
