Hi folks,
we just uploaded a beta version of the upcoming bug fix update Live 5.0.2.
This Beta is free for every Live 5 user.
Use the following links to download the beta:
Mac: http://www.ableton.com/_common/download ... e502b3.dmg
Win: http://www.ableton.com/_common/download ... e502b3.zip
Please send all beta related feedback to [email protected].
Current version: Live 5.0.2b3
Expire date: 2005-09-05
This versions has also some limitations:
- No manual is included
- No content is included
This version has enabled our bug reporter.
You will notice it when restarting Live after experiencing a crash.
Furthermore the Windows version has additional debug code to dump
information into the log file. Therefore the Windows version is a bit
slower as the final version (something between 5% to 15%).
When starting live 5.0.2b3 for the first time it should open the Beta lesson
which also contains the change log. We already started with an the beta
internally so this is why we already have number 3 of the Live 5.0.2 beta.
Kind Regards,
Alex
Change log Live 5.0.2b2 - 5.0.2b3
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Improvement: Orange dot in the clip view
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1) The dot visualizes the playing offset of the clip against the rest of the song; more technically, the offset of the time when the clip was fired against an imaginary grid that starts at song time 0. Before this update, the width of this grid used to be the clip's loop length, which means that the dot was likely to appear if, say, you fire a clip with a four-bar loop with one-bar quantization. To make this less confusing, we changed that imaginary grid to have a width of 1 bar, regardless of the clip's loop length.
2) There's a new value box in the clip panel that shows the numeric value of the playing offset, in bars/beats/sixteenths (where bars will always be zero, because the offset can never be greater than half the width of the imaginary grid mentioned above). You can drag these values up and down to jump in the clip by bars, beats, or sixteenths, respectively. We hope this will be a substitute for nudging the clip by dragging its start marker, which used to be possible in Live 4, and which many of you were missing in Live 5.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Improvement: Externally changed audio files
-----------------------------------------------------------------
If the physical audio file of an Live audio clip is changed Live is still trying to restore warp markers. This should also fix a problem where warp makers are lost only when changing am ID3 tag of a MP3 file.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[01] Bug: Changing warp markers
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When changing warp markers of the clip that is currently playing (either by dragging warp markers, or by inserting or deleting warp markers, or by pressing "*2" or ":2"), the play position would jump.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[02] Bug: quantization shortcuts
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When typing one of the keyboard shortcuts of the global quantization chooser (e.g. Command-9) while a value box has the focus, the typed number would be inserted into the value box rather than switching the quantization.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[03] Bug: Changing clip loop values
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When changing the loop values of a clip while it is blinking, the clip would will play with the loop values of when the clip was fired, not with the new loop values.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[04] Bug: Firing clips legato
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Firing audio clips with legato could cause drop-outs in the audio (unless RAM is on).
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[05] Bug: Scrub: Target position
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When scrubbing to an arbitrary position when the play marker is a very short time before a quantized position the jump would get delayed.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[06] Bug: Scrub: Follow actions
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Scrubbing would stop a clip's follow actions.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[07] Bug: Quantization and follow actions
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Clip quantization would not obeyed for follow actions.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[08] Bug: Plug-in: Audio Units
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: Mac
Live would crash with several audio unit plug-ins. For instance this should fix a crash with TC Powercore plug-in)
Status: Fixed
Change log Live 5.0.2b1 - 5.0.2b2
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[01] Bug: Undo and Redo for warp marker
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Under certain conditions undo and redo for creating or deleting of warp markers would result in a crash.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[02] Bug: Looped clips in "Re-Pitch" mode
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Looped audio clips in "Re-Pitch" warp mode would sound different on the second loop iteration.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[03] Bug: Mackie Control initialization
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
The MCU would not initialized properly when loading a Live set which dynamically adds virtual MIDI devices to the system. For instance this would happen when loading a Live set containing the Augustus Loop plug-in.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[04] Bug: VST: Rescanning of plug-ins
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
VST plug-ins failed during the scanning would be rescanned on each Live start.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[05] Bug: Switching from arranger to session
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When switching the first time from Live's arranger view to the session view, the scrollbar would overlay the mixer-chooser buttons.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[06] Bug: "Undo.cfg" errors
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Under certain conditions there are errors when Live is going to close or to delete the "Undo.cfg" file. After such an error messages Live would often crash.
The problem with the "Undo.cfg" still exists but the following crash should be fixed now.
Status: Fixed
Change log Live 5.0.1 - 5.0.2b1
-----------------------------------------------------------------
General Improvements:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
When previewing a clip whose start marker is in the middle of the loop, we play exactly one iteration (from the start marker to the loop end, and then again from the loop start to the start marker).
Increasing the height of the product list within Live's preferences dialog
Content Packages that were never installed or uninstalled by the user were hard to find (since the default packages reside in the application bundle). Now there is an option in the product pref page to scan the default locations for not installed packages. These are listed in the products table with the option to install them.
When moving or copying files into a folder using Live's file browser the corresponding folders will not longer automatically be opened.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
MIDI clock improvements:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The detail view of each logical MIDI IN or OUT device has now a colored header. This makes it hopefully more obvious, that this view is not a global, but device specific.
For Output devices we added a MIDI clock mode that can be switched between "Song" mode or "Pattern" mode. The default is "Song" mode which behaves like the previous version.
"Song" mode: When the global song position is changed while playing we immediately send a corresponding MIDI SPP (Song Position Pointer) message followed by a MIDI Continue message.
"Pattern" mode: When the global song position is changed while playing we continue to send MIDI clocks until the next bar. Then we simply send a MIDI start message. Therefore the pattern mode allows to use Live perfectly as Master for drum machines or synths which ignore Song Position Pointers messages.
By default the sync type of MIDI input devices is set to "MIDI Clock" instead of "MIDI Timecode" now.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[01] Bug: Arpeggiator view
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Chooser control for Groove would be to small.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[02] Bug: Filter Delay clicks
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Under certain conditions there would be a click in the audio when switching the Filter Delay device on or off.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[03] Bug: Grain Delay clicks
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Depending on the settings there would be a click in the audio when using the Grain Delay device. The bug was there for the complete lifetime of the Grain Delay device.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[04] Bug: Simpler instrument filter
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
The filter in the Simpler instrument would produce artifacts for sample rates smaller than 44100 Hz.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[05] Bug: Device groups: Activate hot swap
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Activating hotswap on device groups with mouse double click would not work.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[06] Bug: Phaser device
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Depending on the device settings the Phaser filter would not work properly for sample rates smaller than 44100 Hz.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[07] Bug: Renaming clip
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Live would show a cryptic error message when trying to rename a clip with a name containing chars not supported by the operating system.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[08] Bug: Renaming sample files
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: Mac
Under certain conditions .asd files are not renamed alongside their parent .wav or .aiff file. This would happen only on Mac with sample files without file extensions.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[09] Bug: Browser: Database index error
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Under certain conditions (e.g. due to permission problems) the database index used for the browser search could not be created. Instead of showing an error message Live could crash.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[10] Bug: Browser: Prelisten delay
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When previewing audio clips in the browser, there's a small delay until the clip actually fires; the delay is necessary to ensure that the beginning of the clip is read from disk to avoid drop-outs. However, when the song is running and you preview a clip very shortly before reaching the quantization, this would often cause you to miss the quantization, which is annoying; to fix this, we no longer wait for the disk in this specific case, hoping that the quantization time will be long enough for the sample data to be read in time.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[11] Bug: Close Live Set with armed tracks
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Closing a Live set with armed tracks would bring up a 'delete files' messages.

Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[15] Bug: Missing sample after undo
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
After some undo, redo of creating warp-markers for recorded files a message box appeared saying "the file cannot be opened".
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[16] Bug: Unlooped session clip loop
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
An unlooped session clip would erroneously loop if its region end happened to coincide with the song loop end.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[17] Bug: Copy & paste of arranger clips
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Under certain conditions several copy, paste operations of an unwarped arranger clips could result in a crash.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[18] Bug: "Paste Scenes" crash
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When starting Live with an empty system clipboard the "Paste" and "Paste Scenes" would not be grayed and using them would lead to a crash.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[19] Bug: Copy or move clips with envelopes
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
1) When moving or copying clips between tracks, envelopes for mixer parameters would only be retained if both tracks have the same devices, which makes little sense; we always copy all mixer envelopes now. (Live 4 would never copy mixer envelopes, unless the clip was moved within the same track.)
2) Envelopes for sends were not copied at all in Live 5.0.1, even when moving a clip within the same track. We always copy send envelopes now if the source and destination tracks belong to documents that have the same number of sends.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[20] Bug: Locator behavior
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
1. Depending on the quantization back-jumping from trough locator would not work properly.
2. Removing locators at unquantized song times would not work properly.
3. When adding a Locator the default name only contains the number instead of "Locator" + number.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[21] Bug: Warping with extreme stretch factor
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
1. An audio clip in "Re-Pitch" warp mode with extreme stretch factor would not sound as in Live 4.
2. An audio clip in "Beats "warp mode with extreme stretch factor would not sound as in Live 4.
3. There would be some artifacts due to wobbling of stretch factor in "Komplex" warp mode.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[22] Bug: Clicks at loop end in frozen clips
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
Under certain conditions frozen clip could have an audible click at loop end when playing them back.
Status: Fixed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
[23] Bug: Auto-warp via "From here" context menu
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All
When auto-warping via the context menu entry "From here" a wrong tempo could be detected for the first bar, which looks as if autowarp doesn't work at all.
Status: Fixed
