VST Plugin and Patches

Hi all,

I am kinda of a newbie so please bare with me. I just got Live 5. I loaded Steinberg's Hypersonic plugin. I was wondering how do I load this plugin only once and access its patches in multiple tracks. For example, if I add the plugin to Midi track 1 and 2. I want track 1 to play patch #5 and track 2 to play patch #6. I can do this by adding a new instance of the plug in to each Midi track but it seems like a waste of memory. I assume there is a way to load the plugin only once and have it be used by multiple tracks.

I am coming from a Sonar background where this was a lot easier.

I hope this made sense.

I believe you have to load it on each track if you want 2 different sounds at the same time. You would then assign each track to a different MIDI channel. If you want to use 1 instance and make a program change, then you can do it on just one track. I don't have Hypersonic but I don't think it would draw that much more memory. I use multiple plug-ins a lot of the time with no trouble.

It depends. Some plugins are multi timbral, ie can actually play multiple patches at the same time, but it is not that common.

If you use a multi timbral VST you have to use different midi channels.

No idea about hypersonic though.

OK I figured it out. This would probably work with any sampler but I tried it with Hypersonic and Korg Legacy

1. Start new Live Set
2. Added Hypersoniec to 2 MIDI
3. Loaded the following samples in the banks:
1= Black Hole
2 = Thump Bass
3 = Digital Choir
4. Added new MIDI tracks: 3 MIDI and 4 MIDI
5. Highlight 3 MIDI and click I/O
6. Change MIDI To = 3 MIDI
7. "Under MIDI To" I can change the "track in" to Hypersonic 1. This will play the black hole sample
8. Do the same for 4 MIDI except I chose to play the digital choir sample

I think thats it. Thanks for the hints above.

instead of track in you will want the output of each midi track to be
"hypersonic -1" , "hypersonic -2" etc.

if u choose "track in," the track with the actual vst wont play any midi data on its own track.

Sorry if i don't understand....i was thinking about doing the same thing with my korg legacy plugin....but i don't know how to load different samples in the banks...i mean, if i load the plugin in one midi track i can only choose 1 sample at time can you load 3 different samples in just one track and after route them to different midi tracks?...please explain this would be really usefull....thanks a lot... :lol:
