clip style automation envelopes for return tracks
one possible solution has clips that could be stuck directly in those blank clip slots of the return track.
These clips would be only allowed to contain envelopes for loaded effects...obviously. mabye midi notes(for vocoders etc.)
it might be cool to allow the return track's plugins to be automated via any audio or midi clip. Sort of like a patch cord remote. But now Im getting carried away.
There are workarounds that would allow us to have the same audible result as what this suggestion would allow. I seriously hope Ableton avoids cluttering the program with features that cant be completely disabled. I think that type of updating contributes to unstability.
Awsome addition in 5 with the clip deactivation funtcion, not to mention the entire right clicking thing in itself, however......
I wish for one little variation on the clip deacvtivation, and that is:
to be able to specify whether the clip will activate when triggered directly or by scene trigger.
This condition allows me to have dedictated tracks with clips of sound hits that are mapped to midi msgs and ignored when I launch a scene. The few work arounds I have found consist of less efficiant means than this proposed function offers.
One more involving triggering and remote control behavior.
Clip groups: one command fires a configured selection of clips. (You could say it is a Capture Scene function that uses less "scenescreen" real estate and minimizing clip reduncancy.) If the arrangement's remote cue triggering is solid like a rock, this might be solved. Here ia an example of what I mean by rock solid:
If you need to jump between Clip View and Arrange View, maybe arrangement cues could have a preference switch that can be turned on to enable the Back To Arrangement Button. This would be very useful to me.
Ability to assign multiple Live parameters to one Midi cc or QWERTY key. Available with a scaled ratio, offset, and inverse where ever possible.
On a cross topic... parameters of the Mixer section in the Device Chooser of the Clip Envelope Editor should at least be implimented with a switch allowiing either the condition of relative envelope behavior or absolute value like in the Arrangement's automation.
Im sure Albleton would implement some of this stuff when they can do it without comprimising the stability of Live.
Archiving a Live set within itself.
I dreamt this one up to serve as a contained divider of the entire creation process/composition. From sound design and riffs to arrangment variations and maybe alternate final mixdowns.
Imagine being able to save a single Live Set into partitioned batches...lets call them Chapters. This would be much similar to how separation of set to set provides a clean work space, but there is a much tighter communication between divisions. This makes archiving a snap with minimum redundancy saving disk space because all clips are saved in the same folder, but divided in Live's browser.. if you choose to destruct edit a sample in a Chapter later than the first, Live would automatically ask you to consolidate the file then perform the action. (Extend that communication to external sample editor by: In Chapters later that the first create a temp file to be sent to the external editing program and prompting to overwrite the original file or replace it when you return to Live from the external sample editor.)
When you save a new Chapter there could be a choice to clear everything, capture certain things, or change nothing(things= clips, arangments, evnvelopes, midi and key mapping, plugins.). dont forget the ability to save and import envelope curves.
