live internal bit resolution

What's the internal bit resolution of live 5?
I always have to seriously cut down the volume of vst synths (especially arturia stuff) so they don't go in distortion.
So i guess the live mixing engine isn't all that...

At last someone mentions this. Ive never mentioned it myself as I have no idea why VSTs are overly loud in Luve, so is Lives own virtual instruments especially impulse. Another thing that bugs me is the effect return channels are to low. I shouldnt have to stick the utility plugin on nearly every return channel VST to raise the volume of the effect. This is not a bug its been like this since version one. I always thought something would be done about this but that seems unlikely.Your the first person I have seen bring this up on the forum.

I've noticed this as well. The returns are very weak, I often have to use a utility or compressor on a delay to keep it from being buried in the mix.

weak returns?
they are fine for me, perfect for using as mixing busses too
when I send a signal to a return track with the send knob set to max
I get the same amount of signal in the return.
it makes no sense to get more db's than in the original signal.

me...
I worked in Logic 5 in the past and returns operated pretty else. They were much powerful. Similar in other DAWs.
Live's returns are weak in comparison with Logic, Cubase, FLStudio and the others
VSTi Overload's also noticed here (no overload's on level meters but sure audible )

Since the track faders start at 0 dB (don't they?), wouldn't it be enough just to pull them way down initially, and then raise what needs to be raised? You can then normalize/compress the rendered result. Or does this involve some headroom thing that I don't understand?

Funny, those were two things I always wondered about, but never though they'll be related. So yeah, I wonder what the internal bit resolution is as well. I always have to lower the volume of VSTi's and things are always clipping the master.
Haven't noticed about the return channels though

That is a good idea, I might set up my default song with the meters attenuated a few db.
