Discrepancy between visuals and sound

Hi all.
First of all I am a complete novice with Ableton so PLEASE do not flame me if I am asking a dumb question. Basically, it's like this:
When I'm playing back a track and looking at the arrangment, the little vertical line that moves along showing you where you are in the track does not co-ordinate with where I actually am on the track.
For example, if I am listening to the track, the drums will kick in before the vertical line gets to the beginning of the "drums" track. In fact it seem to be exatly 1/4 of a bar behind. This is happening even on the tutorial, so I don't think it's something I've done?
This is obviously particularly annoying and confusing when attempting to warp other tracks!
I should say that this never seemed to happen when I first starting using the program (I don't think), so it may be that I've hit a button I don't know about or something?
Any ideas if this is a bug or just something I'm doing wrong?
Cheers for any help.

I reckon this is due to Plug in delay compensation added to the latency (delay) caused by your soundcard causing the difference beetween when something happens in the program, and on your screen, and when the result is outputed from your soundcard. Try lower latencies imo

That is strange (thats about all the help i can give there, a bump). Not wanting to sound like a prick, but are you sure your not adjusting something by mistake while zooming?

And when your playing the clip, does what you hear confirm what you see?

when i play the clip it's sound ok the warp remain in place but the display it wrong
this thing happen on some mp3's not all of them
i don't find any rule
offtopic:
why on some mp3's for example the lenght is 3:30 minutes and live decompres the song and have double lenght 7 min and half it's blank ?
i find mp3 verry annoying because if live delete the cache file...it will reanalyze the mp3 and change the warp...
i will go straight to wav's

I have this same problem. Its driving me nuts.
I also get a problem where if I drop in 2 or more MP3's in to be decoded at once, ableton screws up where the start of the start is. It'll cutoff the first few seconds of the track.
I'm finding lots of instances where what you see isn't what you get.

i also have problems with decoding
a track 3:00 mins decoded has 3:00 and 3:00 of silence at the end
i think it's from type compression cbr/vbr

Is that on 5.0.2?
I´ve had the waveform disappearing completely on some songs when zooming in.

The wrong file lenght was a bug in 5.0.1, try out 5.0.2.
And install Quicktime, then Live uses it for decoding and not it´s internal decoder wich had some problems, one of the Abes mentioned.
