MIDI Sync Prob

MIDI Sync prob
on trying to sync two G4 Powerbooks (10.2.4/10.2.3) via MIDI (Oxygen 8 as the Master on one and MT4 as a slave on the other PB- both running Ableton Live 2.01) we encountered a strange phenomenon:
PB 1 sends MIDI Clock via Oxygen8 into MIDI In 1 on the MT4. Another keyboard is connencted to MIDI In 2 on the MT4. MIDI Monitor displays the incoming MIDI Clock on the slave book arriving on MIDI In Port 1 ot the MT4 as expected. As soon as a single MIDI message is sent from the keyboard (connected to MIDI In2 of the MT4) MIDI Monitor tells us, that the MIDI Clock is received from MIDI Input 2 (Port2) of the MT4, what is obviously untrue. As soon as the master PB stops the MIDI Clock, MIDI Monitor´s Display switches back to "Port1"
This behaviour keeps Ableton Live on the Slave Book losing sync.
Any idea anyone?
Could be a system problem, but who knows...
