Ableton Forum

Hello,
I know this isn't super complicated, but I just can't find solid information about this anywhere!! So I thought I would post on some forums and see what other users have to say...so here we go!

Basically what I want to do is be able to record a live performance for analyzing later. It doesn't need to be multitrack. Just a stereo recording of the performace. At the same time I need to output a tempo mapped click track to the band. I would want an independant tempo map for each song.

To begin with, I'm not sure which software is most well recommended for this job. Also, what makes this a little more interesting is the next goal...

I need to be able to load the click tracks for each song QUICKLY so there is little or no loading time in between songs. During a live concert, there will be no time to load another project.

I currently have a laptop with a firewire 410 interface.
The interface comes with Ableton 4.

Is ableton 5 worth upgrading to, for accomplishing what I am asking? Is there better software to do what I'm asking? Is there another program like Circular Logic's "In Time" that could be used with software like ableton?

Any and all help is appreciated immensley.

I'm setting up a similar thing. I have loops that are the full length of my song as clips and one click track set up as a midi device. All loops go in a scene for each song. Then you just trigger a scene and there is your song.
All my loops are tight to a grid though, no tempo map needed.

You can use the Master Track tempo envelope to do you map, and record straight into a track. You could put all the songs into one big Live set, so you wouldn't have to load 'songs' throughout the set. Live 4 will do this.

in live 5 you could set up a tempo map in arrangement for each track and have a midi key set to jump to a marker set for each tempo map. if you wanted to change the length of the track during a performance you might be in trouble though...
try it out in the demo and see if it suits you first though.

Thanks to all for your replies. Between the three I think I can pull this off. The midi key point trick helps with some other thing I had in mind too. It seems that Ableton is very well suited for doing the kind of thing I'm asking.
Currently the gear is at the drummers house, so I'll try this out next time I'm there.
