Hi chitlun,
I'm not sure if I understand you... do you render something in Cubase with Live running as ReWire slave to Cubase?

Alex

Hi Alex.
The problem is arising when I'm running live as a rewire slave. When I come to do a mixdown the audio from live is intermittent. This seems only to have come about since I upgraded to SX 3. This as you can imagine is a problem for the final mix.
Cheers

Hi chitlun,
the ReWire protocol does not contain information if the audio data pressing is done in real-time (normal playing) or not real-time (rendering, bouncing).
So when Live runs as ReWire slave it behaves like all data is processed in real-time. This again can lead to problem when you do a not-real-time operation in the ReWire host (like Rendering in Cubase SX in your case).
So the safest workaround would be to record your mix in real time in Cubase SX.

Alex

huhh????
so why does SX export work with reason as slave for instance ?

Hi Chris J,
so why does SX export work with reason as slave for instance ?
I do not know if it always works with Reason. Maybe because a typical Reason song does contain much less audio files (unless you use a Sampler instances there) as a typical Live set.
But however, in Live when you use "Render to Disk" it handles the reading of audio files different as when normal playing in real-time. This should guarantee that all needed audio data is read timely enough. So without this information it can happen that some audio files are not read timely enough .
So the question is, does activating the "real-time" check box in the "Audio mixdown" dialog of Cubase SX solve this problem or not.
Maybe Propellerheads had a different (or maybe better) mechanism so that they do not need to separate between real-time and not real-time processing, I simply do not know.

Alex

When I use reason in rewire I actually use the NNXT sampler, many instances.
When I got this problem in live as rewire I was using just one loop (8 bar long) nothing else, no plugins , effects.

Hi Chris J,
as I wrote before, I do not know what Propellerheads do inside Reason.
Maybe a better mechanism, maybe NNXT sampler holds the clips in RAM,...
Let us see if the Mixdown in real-time makes a difference or not.

Alex

I'll try but even if it does that won't be much helpful as i never export in real time as I always have a lot of processing to be calculated
EDIT : I got confused here, for some reason I thought real time was going faster.

Nice one Alex.... The real time option does the trick. This is good, it means I can go and put the kettle on when it's doing its thing.....
Cheers you've been a great help
Chitlun javascript:emoticon(':D')
Very Happy
