Is there a live Lite version for sale. And what does Live Lite has that Live does Not?

That doesn't make sense.

Live lite is something you get for free when you buy an M-audio product for example.
It's a trimmed down version of Live 4.
If you own a copy. You can get a discount for Live 5 the full version.

Got Live 2xs 2.1 with an MAudio product. But no discount for upgrade to Live 5 or upgrade to Live lite 4. I don't think I need all the power of Live 5 (great software) right now. So I trying to find out what are the features that Live Lite (Maudio) has that Live 5 does not?

I got 2 copys of L4lite with my Triggerfinger and my ozonic.

They work normally beside that they have no midisupport, means that you can´t even control it with your newly purchased controller , a very usefull limitation .

But as you have a lite L2 version email and ask the abes what they can offer you as a special deal, upgrading to a L4lite version is definately a nono in my opinion.

But I think Ableton could commercialize a cut-down version of Live, like Steinberg do with Cubase SE, Cakewalk with Sonar Home Studio, or Emagic with Apple Express.

I think it would be a great introduction to many people who might not be able to afford Live. With upgrade path, they would be able to get it when their finances allow.

It´s been proven that the Lite versions that come with M-Audio stuff have worked in attracting people to the product.

Yep, I want to tell my friends about this great system and have them collab with me, but the entry cost is so prohibitive.

And to get a lite version you have to buy an M-Audio product bundle.

What limits do you guys propose for a $79-$99 LE version?

lol, dude, you dont have to bump after 4 hours. its the middle of the day. alot of people have jobs. be patient.

If you want a response, mine is I really dont see a point in an LE version. Live is one of the cheapest pieces of software for what you get (in my opinion). I dont think its too expensive.

I do understand however that alot of people dont have hundreds of dollars to throw at this kind of thing, and they want anothr option. BUT, if you have that little money, then you cant possibly be able to purchase things like HD's, audio interfaces, and most importantly midi controllers. And if you cant afford them, then you will really never be able to take full advantage of ever an LE version of Live. I think you would just be cheating yourself.

Besides, I think Lite is just fine. ANd shit, its free.

Thanks for the response. No Midi support bundled with a Midi Keyboard? Strange.

Yeah, I just got a Trigger Finger with AL Lite 4 bundled and it doesn't seem to have any MIDI mapping support, althought it does indicate that MIDI communication is being recieved. The button to turn on MIDI mapping (next to the key mapping button) is missing. This makes absolutely no sense to me to bundle a program with a controler and not have them work together. I was super excited to try out the Trigger Finger in Ableton too. This is a pretty annoying oversight/tactic by Ableton, though it may just work - I want to buy Live 5 anyway since I have been using a bootlegged version of 3 for a while now.

Yesterday I visited a friend who had received the Live 4 Lite version bundled with an E-MU product. Being a full version owner myself and having not actually seen the Lite version before, I expected it to be an actually useful sequencer in spite of the limitations. You know, like traditionally lite versions of products like this have been very nice packages for example for young beginners to try out recording and arranging their own material, and so on. Limitations have been those of track count, plugin count and the like -- sometimes even severe ones at that, but at least you have still been able to put stuff together. Such learning classics as Logic Audio Composer, Micro Logic and Cubasis come to mind.

That's why I was very surprised to see how limited the lite version of Live actually is. For example, you can't edit the arrangement at all. If you drag and drop an audio clip into the arrangement, it says you're not authorized to do that and you should switch into demo mode, in which case you no longer can save your work. Everything you wish to place into the arrangement view will have to end up there by recording. Alas, after recording you can't move the material on any track one bit. If you try to drag a clip even one snap length one way or another, again you're reminded that you are not able to do that without giving up your ability to actually save the project.

I think the Live Lite version would more serve its purpose if one could still try creating simple arrangements and all that. For the buyer of a bundle which has the Live Lite version included, such an approach would underline the "complete music making solution" point of Ableton Live much more pleasantly than the present one.

If you upgrade lite to 4.1 you can get midi control and use it with triggerfinger. just go to upgrades, put your serial in and your there - a gratis!

i'm sold - with 5s DAW stuff out, it's the only way to go. i'm foregoing a sequencer b/c things can be done so much quicker and simpler in live. i think this might be why certain people look at it as amateurish - because you can't get so bogged down in ways of doing things, etc. it's straightforward and hi-tech people sometimes don't like that - the ones that like to sit on these kinds of forums talking about # of tracks vs. cpu, you know, musicians
