MAJOR CRISIS HELP!

I just started up ableton again and loaded up my latest project. IT'S GONE!!!
There's nothing there at all. I have no idea what happened. I know at one point there was a message saying that there was a serious problem and to save under a different name. I didn't think anything of it as this frequently occurs and nothing ever happend.

Is there anything I can do? Live 5 needs some serious updates. I just lost 3 days of work!

Please help!

Ok, now I tried opening another file I completed last week. It's GONE! Can someone please tell me what's going on here? Is there anything I can do?

Strange. No idea.

At any time Live5 crashed (mostly caused by the PoCo),
the resulting recover file was absolutely OK.

something like that happened to me too recently. Now every day i start work on a Live 5 project, i create a folder called DDMMYYYY and put the .als file in there. That way the worst that can happen is I lose 1 day of work. I feel for you, that sucks...

At the time this happened I was running 5.0. I recently upgraded to 5.0.1.

Just an FYI for people if this happens. Under documents and settings there's an Ableton folder. In that folder there's another sub folder called 'Crash'. I found my two missing songs there. Luckily I was able to recover them. Not even Ableton support told me to do that.

After upgrading to 5.0.1 my Ableton now crashes more frequently especially after rendering. In fact almost every time I render it crashes. Freakin' ridiculous.

I'd sooner be using Live 4. This is total Bullsh1t.

Hi,

You were on 5.0 you say ? Does it mean any beta version ? Cause one thing that has been said is that the work done on betas previous to the 5.01 version may not be valid on the official release...
Donno if I understood you well,
Best,
amo

I just experienced a "serious error", I did "save as" under a new name, and that song when opened is completely empty, luckily the original one still works.

Glad you got your stuff back!

I know the feeling. I lost a month's work once.

Backup.. backup.. backup! Hard drives, especially external USB, are SO cheap. It's just not worth losing so much time over saving a few bucks.

You should also do routine system/disk maintenance on a regular basis, too. There are lots of good utilities out there, including some for data recovery that you might try. I'd avoid the free ones. You get what you pay for.

FWIW, I have had only one crash (knock on wood) since using 5, including the betas, and that was trying out a dodgy freeware plug-in, which I won't be doing again!

Yes I keep getting this same freakin' problem. I think you had what I had. I opened up the file and there was nothing there except for one audio track (when normally there should be an audio and a midi).

And I think I'll take up your advice Hambone. I definitely need a backup. Live crashes everytime I render now and comes up with the "Serioius Error" message.

System/disk maintenance may not sort this particular problem problem out, but it's a good habit to get into.

It sounds like you may neede a re-install or preference dump. I'm not too PC savvy, so maybe someone else can pipe in with some help.
