Suggestions For Reducing Latency For Live Performance

Hello,

I am currently using an M-Box as an audio interface(input/output) with Live and hope to use it to layer vocals in a live situation. I have noticed there is more latency than I want. I am also planning on using a midi controller to play "simpler" and VST plug ins in live shows. Any ideas on how my latency can be reduced to around 5 ms? Is there a great sound card that would be better for my output? Does the ECHO Indigo DJ work with OSX Tiger?
By the way I have a Powerbook G4 with 2 gigs of RAM. Still planning on buying an external 7200 RPM hard drive. Thanks for your suggestions.

bump your audio card buffers down to 256. Voila 5ms!

If it crackles, you'll have to remove VST's however.

a friend of mine does pretty hard core vj stuff with vdmx and from what he's told me he uses a stripped down OS for mac. i dunno any more than that, but reduced CPU use in general should give you more overhead with latency etc. so it might be worth googling about or summink.

ps - firewire of pcmcia should perform better than USB too.

I think you have to go into the Digidesign control panel to adjust the buffer size.
