I'm sure some of you saw my other post regarding poor results in the mixing arena. I'm through with my denial phase and I know that I have to purchase a more appropriate pair of reference monitors to get my mixing done proper. So what are you guys using? Give purchase prices too if you don't mind. Thanks again.

excellent, punchy, very clear detailed sound, and seem to be quite flat.

I'm veery happy with them anyways.

I've listened and mixed on quite a few monitors by now, and I really like what I'm hearing from Genelec as well. But since I'm skint, have no real studio at the moment and whatnot, I use a pair of Sennheiser HD570s

i paid under 900.00$ us for the pair
i tried out about 10 different sets pretty seriously
and decided on these because they seemed to reveal the most mid-range,
while the other sets of powered monitors were all "scooped" sounding
and were lacking more of the audio spectrum. also decent lows in the 8s'....
the others i tried were all around or less than $1k... dynaudio 6's, a pair of mackies... also event, alesis, the rockit krk series, and tannoy.
i moved up to these from a pair of event studio 6's.

Luckily having a spacious and luxurious studio space in which to place my monitors and also having an almost limitless budget I have been able to purchase a pair of Yamaha MSP3’s...

I know they're low-budget compared to you pro Genelec/HR824 guys, but I like my M-Audios.

I was using the BX-8s, then added BX-5as for rear surround.

I liked the accuracy, especially in the vocal mids, and tighter bottom end (!), of the BX-5as so much that I swapped them around. The BX-8s seem to have a big hole in the middle of the audio spectrum. They're my rear speakers now.

I guess that's what can happen when you have a bigger woofer and no dedicated midrange driver. When checking my mix, I'm using the BX-5s mostly, then toggling to the BX-8s to check the low end.

It seems to work for me, but I'm only mixing for my own live performance with FOH Mackie SR1232s and SRM450s in the rear.

I'm tempted to get a pair of these BX5a monitors...

I like them better than the last series, and they are really cheap stateside


they definately are not flat though... they sound too bright and woofy. they don't have the scooped sound too much, because they are a small driver (I guess)

If I had my choice, I'd get HR624 (My room doesn't really respond well to anything larger than a 6 inch driver.)

Does anybody know, or have a link to information on what kind of room sizes are best suited to monitor/driver sizes?

KRK V4's w/S8 sub. Pretty nice for close monitoring in a small room.
