CompressorII & Normalize

I'm using 5.0.2b8 & I'm not sure if it's just the combination of using CompressorII & Normalize (as I have never used the compressorII on the master output before), but I get a horribly distorted rendered file. I'm thinking it might be the autogain in compressorII & the normalize fighting each other. Is this normal?
