recovering corrupt als file

hiya - i'm wondering if its possibble somehow to recover a corrupt als file.. anything would be better than nothing..
does ableton save backups anywhere? normally i save projects under different incremental names as i work on them - but for this one it was quick mostly made in one day... i'm annoyed as it was a pretty much finished sequence..and it was a good chooN!
i've never really had a problem like this before - i cant remember the last time a project corrupted on me - especially one i was working on. i am pretty sure live cloesd down normally and everything.. V 4.1.2 it is..
could this be the beginning of the death of my lacie harddrive? i've had it for 2 years almost and its been used almost every day.. i recently installed some loop collections and a few weeks later i tried to access them from live and was getting - file corrupt message - it could be just coincidence i guess - but maybe no?
any help would be appreciated - ty
