Not hearing sound while recording MIDI

Hello, hopefully this is a simple problem to fix. While playing a VSTi I can hear the instrument just fine while the track is armed, however after i hit record up top to record the session, then hit record on the MIDI track I am not hearing any sound with the monitor mode on AUTO. If i put the mode on "ON" or i can hear while recording, but after looping the track i still hear that track, even when it isn't armed.

My question is this...how can i hear my MIDI instrument while recording session and recording a MIDI track? I can hear everything perfect while just recording normal tracks, but the second i record the session and try to record a MIDI track i hear nothing until i loop it for playback.
