I have my VSTi (Trilogy) set up and working. When i arm the track I can hear it great and can record loops, BUT when i hit the main record button (to record the session) I can no longer hear my VSTi while trying to record loops. But on playback i can hear them. What am I doing wrong?

you have to have your vsti track 'armed'... you may be 'unarming' it when you go to record in session....

No, its armed. Put it this way, i am recording loops with my VSTi and everything is perfect, but as soon as i hit the record button at the very top (session record) i lose all my sound from the VSTi while recording a loop.

Here's another scenario. I have my VSTi set up on an armed track. Works great. I hit session record and i still hear my VSTi just fine. Heres the problem...when i click to record a loop I lose my sound from the VSTi, BUT when i click it again to stop recording the loop, i hear my VSTi again.

If i change the monitoring mode to 'IN' it works, but then i have to change it back to "AUTO" after i am done recording that track. I don't think i should have to change monitor mode just because i am recording in session record.

Any help on this?

sorry, but i reckon that's just the way it works...

when recording into the arrange, you are recording the whole session... you can record the midi if you have the channel armed and "in" or "auto".... but you can't play back a track, and record on that same track (unless you have the midi overdub button on).

if you want to play back midi loops whilst you are recording into the arrange, using the same vsti... why don't you create extra midi channels and route the midi loops and the 'live playing' into the vsti... then you could have the midi you are playing, as well as the loops going into the vsti.

Use a spare MIDI track with the output set to the VSTi instance and set this tracks monitor setting to on. This will allow you to monitor MIDI input while a VSTi is playing, but not an external device though although here you can output directly to the device with both tracks.
