changing tempo of live within a track

Hi guys!
What I want to do is this:

1. I'm playing a fast track, e.g. 140 BPM

2. I drop in

161. Hallucinogen - [In Dub #01] Mi-Loony-Um (A Floating Butterfly Stings Like A Bee Mix) [9:19]

THIS TRACK

how this track works:
it starts out with a clock ticking, it's a loop. it's got high BPM. what happens then is that this "ticking" is slowed down after 30 seconds or so (no idea really, I'd have to check), then once it settles down on the new, slower tempo, it goes on with that tempo.

so what I want to do is to:
drop in a loop of the ticking in the beginning, then stop/take out/finish up the other remaining clips. then have this song follow on till it slows down. once it slows down,

3. start mixing at the new tempo of the later part of that song

how would I do that?

I know exactly how that'd be done with vinyl... just... put the record in, sync it with the old "fast bpm" stuff, fade out the old stuff, let the record play, then sync up new records to the slower tempo

but... it's not that easy with ableton.... is it?

cheers,
D. 8)

you could turn off the warp for the Hallucinogen track, ive had to do this a few times, although it isnt perfect since you cant accuratly beat match it.

putting a cheeky vocal speech sample in between can help.

the only other option as far as i know is to warp the track and manually shift the tempo down, trying to track the original tempo.

what would be really useful would be an option to force live to follow the original tempo of the loop.

exactly... wish if you could

1. set one part of the track to one tempo
2. set the second part of the track to the slower tempo
3. have the stuff inbetween change tempo according to the beats....

here's how i've been doing it:

do what you were thinking in that i create a small clip to use as an outro. i have my midi controller (endless knob in the bcf2000) mapped to tempo with thresholds set between 126 and 140 so i can control speed.

as i xfade out of the main track to the outro, i xfade in the new (slower) track, in synch with the ticking and then slowly start ratcheting down the tempo using the bcf2000.

sometimes i won't create an outro clip; i'll just use filters to strip out everything but the element i want to keep like a click (by cutting all low freqs) and then fade the new tune in and adjust tempo.

i also find it helps to put "notes" in the master track "scene" title like "slow this from 140 to 126" or "speed up to 135" or "unwarped 115bpm". it serves as a handy map to set structure as well.

in the master track, there's a slot for scene names. i just hit command-R on that slot and type in the notes.

since i am usually only running 5 channels and its on a large screen, i tend to stretch the channels out horizontally so i can see full file names and any pertinent notes in the master track.
