If so, why? Curious - I'm having dreams of a little hardware setup again but it could just be me being discontented - but who knows
anyone?

Hi Adonis,
Yep still using my Akai S3200 in my live rig - mainly cos its ZERO latency and 1000% reliable no matter how much I batter it (frustrated percussionist speaking) and the filters and FX board are someting I can't re-create on anything else.
BTW, Nice to meet you in Seattle!

As much as I loved my old Roland S-760, I can never go back.
But much is wrong with the softie samplers too.. I used Kontakt for 18 months before it hosed my Logic 6 OS 9 setup and i had to pull it off.
It's still not a stable program at v2.02.
I'm currently solely using simpler as my softy sampler .. and quite enjoying the limitations! (though the you can't go further than 2 semitones away from the original sample pitch as the interpolation is utter pish!)
But I'm productive, so it doesn't matter!

Here are a couple options.
1) Get an Akai MPC2500 when available. They offer the kind of hardware tweaking that us Ableton users crave. More so than the "other" type of samplers like the 19" rackmount tone modules like the Roland or Akai S series.
2) Buy an M-Audio Trigger Finger. It's mapped for Impulse and also has 10 memory slots for different kinds of configs.. It really satisfies that hardware-craving because it works great with Ableton whether you use it for Impulse, Simpler, or Clips. The 8 knobs and 4 sliders also come in handy.
Regards,
Mark

MPC 2000XL and Yamaha A5000 still in use in my studio (tried to sell the A5k unsuccesfully so I keep it, fantastic filters and good effects).

I recently purchased an Akai MPC400. A few weeks later I swapped it for a Roland MV 8000. AWESOME I TELL YA. I intended to use it for drums and some keyboard samples but have ended up writing all my music on this awesome beast. It can do anythng Live can maybe even better. The best thing is the feel of the pads triggering samples without any delay I can now feel what Im programming. Its so good I might be selling my copy of live 5.
I want to keep live 4. Can I do that?

no, if you sell the licence you can't keep older version of live.

I atill use an Emu e6400 ultra occasionally, for certain sounds if I need them to be real phat and/or use the emu's lovely filters ... also the chorus is wicked on that thing.
My S2000 meanwhile has been sitting in its box for a few years now...

Hardware samplers still sound much better than any softsampler.
Period.
And its sound that counts me thinks.

Yeah, that was awesome - you guys rocked it!
Thanks for calling and hopefully you guys will roll back through when you're on this side of the planet again
Peace
Oh yeah, samplers - word...I was thinking of getting a s2800 or upgrading Kontakt to 2.0 but really I'm not doing that much stuff which isn't loop based. Phatmatik is crakin' right now except for it being pretty dodgy in Live 5
Battery 1 point whatever seems to be doing the trick for a clap, hat and a little percussion here and there
I think I'm just dying to spend (make believe) money I got saved...but I think I'm going to use that money to spoil my new dog, or put a couple bucks down on my XBOX 360 and HD tv or god forbid do something nice for my girl
word!
