you know the midi soft take over feature? it allows your midi controller to meet at the same place as the parameter that is being edited before control actually takes place. for example say i have a mixer slider in a program at 125 and my knob i use to control it is at 2 instead of jumping from 125 to 3 when i turn the knob up it will wait till i turn the knob all the way to 125 before any control changes take place

i thought that something like this would be a standard by now. a shan NI is the only one i can think of at the moment that uses this.

Im pretty sure most of the M-audio devices have what you are looking for, but of course if you dont have m-audio, then you are out of luck.

the uc-33e has a mute controller switch so you can mute the fader/knobs and move
it to where you think it will match your software, then unmuted it takes control...
not really what he's asking for.
his way would be better, if you could toggle a fader to return control to a device
only when the device has matched it's relative position...
like digidesigns new surround panners... nice.
i wonder if a lemur can do it.. if it would display where the controllers are when
you switch to them... hmmm.
