I'm an old crumbly who started out using Notator on the Atari,now,Live is the first PC sequencer that really takes the Notator approach to looping(and wipes the floor with it in most other areas i might add)with different sequence lengths creating complex polyrhythms.Try creating a bassdrum clip looping every three bars and a high hat part every 5 bars,add random velocity,sit back and watch your computer jam...from simple ingredients you have a highly complex and interesting rhythm(See Steve Reich,Eno etc)


Anyway,enough egg sucking education....


One really cool thing that Live currently cant do which Notator could is the ability to copy a clip and delay it by various syncopated amounts,and transposing the copy.For those who havent experienced this believe me for transforming a tame bassline into a complex polyfunk wonder this iss brilliant.

So(if you're still with me )it would be ace if Live could one day replicate this by introducing a Midi "delay" plugin.Imagine if each "echo" had a velocity variation as well as pitch transpose...,pan,etc.

same here, started with Cubase on Atari. Endless fun I had with midi delay and IPS (Interactive Phrase Synthesizer). Take a few notes groove and turn it into a full symphony ...

I want more midi plugins like midi delay, midi note length processor, midi LFOs, plugin that allow to manipulate note, length, time in separate ways ...

I also miss the midi input in note editor : change the pitch of pre-recorded notes with the midi keyboard, step after step. Great for groove creations

Ah yes,the IPS,remember being in awe when i saw that,really very advanced for the time and now for that matter

Cubase seemed to survive pretty well when it went to Mac and PC,but Notator lost the plot when they migrated,ditching the pattern approach and copying Cubase.Both approaches complimented each other i thought but until Live came along no one program actually combined linear andpattern sequencing...its been a long wait.

Love the midi lfo idea,think other people have requested similar feature.

Some way of humanising the timing of notes would be cool,perhaps as part of the existing random note plugin?

Shame the Midi equivalent of the VST format never really took off
