MP3 that used to work doesn't anymore

Hi there,

After a recent windows reinstall/systems upgrade I've just got round to installing live 5. I loaded up the tune I'd been working on, and was surprised to read an error message saying something along the lines of "Ableton can't find the right codec for this file" (I'm paraphrasing).

I looked into it in more detail, and realised that ableton caches uncompressed versions of mp3 files, and that since I've reinstalled, I needed to point ableton at my cache directory rather than the default one. An uncompressed version of the mp3 in question resided in my cache directory, so I thought this might fix the problem.

Unfortunately, Ableton cleared the contents of the cache directory as soon as I told it to use it, deleting the uncompressed mp3.

So, I started a new arrangement and tried to drag my original mp3 into it, thinking I could recreate the cache - and got the same message about codecs!

I then tried a different mp3 and that imported without any problems.

The original mp3 plays fine in media player, etc - it's not become corrupted since the reinstall.

So, I have a situation where ableton WAS happy decoding an mp3, but won't decode it anymore.

Any ideas?

I've had a similar problem for two weeks now. some mp3's in my library live can't see, but if I convert them to mp3 (yes mp3 to mp3) live can see the file, though it is in the same folder and has the same filename...
