Howdy,

Here's a couple of DJ mixes done in Ableton for you progressive house fans out there. Hope you like them and feedback is MUCH appreciated.

Generally, because they've got nothing to show from their own use of Ableton except a partial understanding of how it works, and an even lesser amount of creativity.

You're probably right, I have to admit that I like a good Inis post though. He's such a funny little man...

is there a way i can listen w/o downloading? im at school and they have BT blocked.

Hi,

You can try a couple of things. If you left click on the download mix link (opposed to the bitTorrent link) it should stream. The easier way is to right-click the download line and then select "save target as" (or the Mac equivalent). Again that's on the download mix link and not the bitTorrent link.

The tracklistings look amazing.

I think these mixes are pretty nice. I haven't listened to them all the way through, but the song selection is good and the mixes are really clean. One big difference between Live mixes and vinyl mixes is how clean it usually sounds.

On the other hand, Live can sound a bit thin on headphones. In a club, these mixes would sound great I'm sure. But on my headphones I'd say they could use some more "meatiness". Consider having a limiter at the end of your master chain to add some more punch, like Elephant. If you don't want to add the extra latency, then try something simple like Saturator or even Antares Tube, just to give some low end crunch/warmth. I've heard great things about Vintage Warmer but never had success with it myself, as it tends to muddy the sound for me. Another great combination that I've found is using T-Racks Compressor (which has the best Stereo Widener which can be used very subtly) and then Elephant. Really makes your mix pop out and shine.

Any of those options will really add some great depth to your mix - again for consumer listening. In a club, I'm sure your mix sounds great already, but you might experiment with those master settings.

Thanks for the compliment and the comments. I know what you mean about the "meatiness" factor. I was actually using Vintage Warmer on that mix and realize now after the factor that I should have upped the levels on the individual tracks a bit to get some more punch. I was using the multiband compressor setting put onto the master track. Have you had better experiences having it put on the individual tracks? I personally like Vintage Warmer a lot, but like anything it's got a learning curve and I'm still getting the hang of it. Do you happen to know what frequencies you would boost to get better headphone listening? 80hz, 90hz ? Getting the final mix to sound perfect is tricky because like you've probably noticed there's a fine line between being nice a clear with really tight bass and getting muddy.
