I've got Logic and a few other things. I also got Live but for the life of me I cant see what to do with it. As a rewire to Logic what use is it? All it seems to do is play loops?

I feel I'm missing the point. If anyones got any tip or pointers or any ideas how I might put it to some use please let me know.

Go to the arrange page and make sure looping is set to off. Then it won't play loops!

dude, if you don't go through the lessons or read the manual a few time you will probably dump live because you can't make it work .

once you get grip to live you will probably dump logic ,as i have done with cubase & protool .

is there going to come a point where everybody in the world uses live and therfore its deemed really sad and pathetic. i do hope so. then i can go back to being a loser! hurray

Live is most powerful when run on its own, not rewired. Try it that way.

Let's all relax and help the brutha out...

First and foremost, check out the Live 5 Power book from amazon. Best $23 you'll spend, now that you invested in Live.

Second, look at the Session grid for a very long time. Imagine each of those slots with a sample or a clip. Being able to launch each clip at any time during a performance. Being able to build songs by "jamming" clips. If you think about it long enough, you might break out of the linear multitrack mindset that is keeping you from appreciating Live.

Next, you should take a song you've done in Logic, and slice up loops out of the song. For example, render the verse and chorus bassline, hats, kicks, vocals, etc. You can do this easily with your right and left locaters and just soloing tracks. Once you have the loops, fire up Live and populate the Session grid. Map a midi keyboard or your computer keyboard to the clips you just entered, and just launch them in various ways. In this manner, Live can be a great sketchpad for remixing, or even creating new compositions, and there's not a single piece of software that can help you do that in this manner as well as Live.

If that doesn't give you new ideas, then consider selling Live on this forum.

I second the Live Power! book... absolutely excellent!

But then again - why get into an app that you don't have the need for? If you don't feel Live calling out to you. If you don't need the features and workflow that Live caters for. Then you probably don't need Live.

There are a bunch of computer apps that I don't get and which have features that I don't need. I just don't use them. Simple. Live's not for everyone.

For me, though, it triggers creativity!

I agree completely, that Live isn't for everyone. However, in this case, where someone "doesn't get it", I think we should try to help him "get it" and if he doesn't, then move on. Let's not berate him for not getting it - he's at least trying to figure it out.

We can berate him after he sells it

I really believe that people who come from a linear sequencer mindset need some help to break out of thinking in that paradigm.

Not that I'm any great shakes but I don't know anyone who writes music in a linear fashion from into to end. For me, it's the greatest composition tool around. It can work like I do
