...I'm hopefully not going to start a war with this post (at least I'm not trying to start one) but I have to admit to myself after listening to Hawtin since Plastikman's Sheet One (Maybe one of the most influential records I've ever heard) I think I'm kinda getting sick of this guy...

Dunno, maybe it's the haircut, which I know isn't that new, or maybe it's the lame comments like, "The software does everything now" or the fake DJ'ing poser air moves he displays during live sets. Dunno. The music (which i know is what it should be all about) on Transitions is great. It's the dvd stuff that bugged me. Maybe the "Stalker" film footage, or worse the other video on the disc! Anyone else feel me on this? The live apperances are getting a little weak now too. Compare this year's live tour with the old Detroit Control party's... it's just less effort really. It's like watching him now kinda embarress me... he just looks like a bad clone of someone in the Prodigy...

Sheet One is the worst early-period Plastikman album. Very repetitive tracks with poor acid melodies, overuse of that BLOODY plane roaring sample, and a dated production. Give Musik and Consumed a go instead.

But yeah, ever since Richie went ultra-minimal with DE9 and the astonishingly horrific "Closer" LP (poor toss-off copy of Consumed with massively pretentious monologues spoken over the top), his music has become rather boring. Props to him for pushing the technology he uses though.

Thanks, I've got Musik and Consumed... great records. I wasn't trying to debate the merits of each album, I just mentioned that I've been listening for awhile before slagging the later Hawtin stuff, which never has been bad musically I just said I was getting sick of him a little and the bad persona/image. You think asthectically speaking, the fashion police would have nailed him by now...

Well really his fashion shouldn't come into it. But I'll admit his new hair REALLY has to go!

I'm not the only one that's getting sick of minimal techno, am I? I want maximal, damnit! 80-layer tunes, lots of melodies... oh hold on, that's goa-trance.

he was awesome back in the day (i grew up in the midwest so i got to see him often enough - even further was dope!), but i saw him a few months ago in portland, and it was pretty disappointing. i wish he'd pull out the 303 and 909 and do some of that stuff again.

I guess you can't expect Roland to endorse you by using a 303 and a 909 though, which is what it's all about apparently...

re endorsements: you don't know what you're talking about.

who cares what he looks like or how he moves about. it would be fine with me if he performed behind black curtains. if you don't like the stuff coming out of the speakers, move on. there's a ton of good music about these days.

Dont get me wrong, I used to love a bop about to hawtin as much as the next guy. I remember him playing the arches about 5 years ago and i didn't leave the dancefloor once. He was playing tracks that night that went on to become anthems about 2 years later.
I seen him quite a few times after that and things just got really boring. I think the whole minimal scene is pretty bland. too much chin strokin and deck wankin going on. Having said that, some minimal stuff i really like but its like all music that gets produced, 99% is unimaginitive boring piss flaps and the other 1% is mind blowing.

I'm in the process of moving on DRush... forgive me poking a bit of fun at a pretty funny video or two on the dvd and a haircut. As far as all of the other great music coming out, gee thanks for the recomondation. I thought the world started and stopped all things Hawtin! I'll dust off my other press releases and gripe about them where nobody will read them (Propellerhead forum?)

Yeah, I saw him at the arches a few times then too... absolutely stunning! I just got his new album last week and just can't get into it, I'm afraid.

His sound is getting tiring, methinks. There's no bottom-end on that whole album.

to be honest, I dont wantto see anyone who's repping a product. I want to see people because i love their music.

EXACTLY! I remember seeing the band Trans Am several years ago and they actually had duct tape covering the names of the synths they used! Maybe that's going a bit too far but if keeps people from bugging you about why you use the "gear" you use all of the time so be it. I think Autechre goes the same duct tape route if I'm not mistaken...
