A few things to notice for the best sound while DJing

1. Split your outputs and if you like (I do) mix from the external mixer.

2. Never leave EQ3 engaged in your tracks. This fucks the sound at the crossover points.

3. Same for the filter, always have an effect, also while fully open (or close, HP..). Turn it off when not in use.

4. If possible, work with re-pitch warp. It sounds better when not in an extreme tempo change from the org. The new complex is great, and I tend to use it more and more to key match tracks.

5. Do not play deep trance (regressive house).

EQ3 has the feel of a dj mixer EQ more so than EQ4. Granted EQ4 is better, but if you are mixing EQ3 is best - I think it is easier to set up to control remotely too.

6. Beware of dust on your needles when DJing, it really fucks up the sound :)

without offence ,my opinion on this :

1- to carry a mixer while on tour is a bit of a pain .
2- i have never used eq3 or eq4 during a performance .
3- all my filters are always on , if you are talking about the top or bottom end frequencies leaking ,usually i stop the track not the filter .
4- for a mix i render all the warped tracks .if you produce or work on a workstation pc & gig on a laptop you will find it easier to work with perfecly synced tracks .
5- i am not sure if i should but i agree , i hate trance .

That statement is total bollox IMHO I can chance the freq response of EQ4 from mixer profile to mixer profile in one drag from the library. I currently have it modeled on my mates DJM1000

I use the Steinberg EQ1 VST plugin. It blows all over EQ3+4.

LOL. Pulling you mix down now.... We got a full line-up, but perhaps at the next one... Why not pop in and introduce yourself on the night.

And bring some friends...

Thanks

Qusetion. Got the frequency setting sorted but how do you set the gain range? Currently I got -15dB to +15dB....

look at the bottom of the screen when assigning the midi. It can't go below -15, but you can limit it to plus 6dB easily.

Whilst the eq4 can model some mixer profiles i still find eq3 to be a more useful dj eq. More along the lines of a software Electrix EQ killer.

I can never get eq4 to cut deep enough for me. It may be a limitation in my ability to configure rather than a limitation of eq4 however :)

Ok my turn

1. Don't forget to switch computer on

2. If live is not installed, install live

3. load some tracks, previously warped or not.

4. press play at some point if some sound is expected but not heard.

5. Play some music, but good music only, not bad music.

I hope this is not too general and not stating the obvious.

I hope you guys know that matching the EQ freq. and gain range, and Q.. is only a small part of what makes the EQ's the same ...

Hey spiderprod, I mean the filter takes off from the top or bottom end as soon as it is engaged. :? I would love to leave this shit on but the sound is affected  .
I do not carry a mixer, I used to a few years back... I plug in at the venue and have 2 main tracks, with hardware EQ. :)
