Kontakt and Automation

This is a very strange problem. I assign controller knobs from Kontakt and use the envelope editor in the (Key) editor. It won't read these changes unless I

1. Mess around with the values on the screen with all the controller faders in the instrument.

2. After it gets working from this point it will never reach a maximum value that i assign. The maximum value is dependent upon the knob position shown on the screen in the Kontakt screen.

If someone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

for point 1 you're right, Live won't get the assignment you made in kontakt until you actually change the parameter in kontakt. you don't really need to change the value, just click on the knob you just assigned, live will recognise it, it's just a matter of habit: assign automation, click on knob, then do your tweaking in Live.

for point 2, i guess you're changing the automation inside the clips, which is RELATIVE automation, if you want ABSOLUTE automation (ie the knob/parameter will actually change in kontakt), do the automation in the arrangement view in Live. this is the same for any automation on any device in Live: clip automation = relative, arrangement automation=absolute.

Hey again

Thanks for the reply. Please tell me if i am understanding this correctly.

1. The view with all the faders is the maximum value for your controllers.

2. The envelope curves drawn in the editor are envelopes drawn within the maximum value assigned from the master control?

And like you said after you assign the master value on view with the faders ,they matched up to the value displayed on the other arrangement.

hey plain,
please be a little bit more clearer with the terms you use.
so, from what i guess:
1. i guess you're talking about the unfolded kontakt device in Live. then yes, these are the max values. these are actually kontakt's values.
2. if you're talking about the envelopes that you draw in the clip's editor, yes, these ones are a percentage of the value that you define in the kontakt device. which means they are relative.
