good midi controller?

Post by ekitel » Mon Dec 05, 2005 1:32 am

I don't konw about that thing that Sasha is using, but other than that it looks to me like there is no good midi controller for Live. The UC-33 is ok, though I prefer the Edirol keyboard controllers for one big reason, they have push buttons with led light indicators...

Ideally I'd like to see something like a UC-33, with only 4 or 5 channels, and it can be modular so you add another one to double your channels, and each channel should have the standard fader, and at least 3 led lit buttons, and then at least 3 knobs... simple as that, I wish I could get some company to manufacture something like that

I'm not sure if this is modular as a friend of mine just turned me onto this product, but check out

I think the BCF2000 would be perfect to you. Round about 180€, 8 motorized faders, 8 pushencoder with LED around, 30 buttons. The cheaper (about 130€) BCR2000is equipped with 32 pushencoders instead of the 8 faders, works also great with live.

WOW! I've seen these Behringer devices but I didn't realize the buttons have LED's, I just assumed they were pretty bare bones

while the BCF2000 isn't exactly what I want it's got enough to get me started with the live PA I'm trying to develop until there something better

that Ecler mixer looks pretty cool, too bad all the controls in the mixer don't also control midi...

thanks!

the OS on the BCR is frekkin awesome. allows for just about every kind of adjustment to the controls and LED's you can imagine.

i have tryed the nuo4 , you are very limited in terms of controls , 4 knobs & 3 buttons ....

i backup the bcr , it's for me the best controler for the money on the market .
i still think they should have added a few pots instead of going all encoders .

channels 2&4 of the ecler can also be used to send midi . you have a total of 72 controllers you can assign. hardly limited. the xone 92 is limited to filters and xfader. NUO 4 has lots more to offer, if your looking to have a dj mixer for tables and ableton or traktor.
my 2 cents.

the BCF2000 with mackie control, IMO, is the best midi controller / control surface you can get. especially for its price.

the faders on the BCF seem to have a pretty long throw, I would prefer shorter faders since I will be playing them like a Dj mixer, I'm wondering if I should go for the BCR instead and use knobs for levels, and then I'll get a bunch of other knobs to use also, I don't normally dj with knobs since I like to do hard cuts Techno style, but I know it can be done and gotten used to, the quick twist...

have you heard of faderfox? small, kind of modular, and the new models just might have features you're looking for... they're out early january.

also, i've heard the knobs on the bcr can be set to act very quick, as in: turning a knob real fast and do a complete sweep/fader jump in a quarter turn...

doesn't look like there are LED's on the faderfox buttons

that's good to know about the Behringer, I think I'll go for the BCR then, it's cheaper too!

If you add an TranzPort from Frontier Design and use Behringers BCFView or huskervu you'll get nearly the same functionality like a Mackie Control (with all knobs, faders, large jogdial, tranzport control and so on) for round about a third of the price. The only thing that is missing: the volume fader and touchfaders, but they are not supported by Live.

Yes, if you assign a control-element within live, you can choose the range between the midi-values should work. This allows you to make changes "finer" or "wider" (e.g. "quicker")
