Newbie MIDI assign question

I've searched the forums for a couple weeks now. learning a lot, but still a couple of questions-

Are the MIDI-assignable parameters in Live as limited as they seem or am I missing a hidden feature? There seem to be a lot of controls left out, and menu commands/keystrokes are left out entirely? I have read the midi info in the manual but it's pretty thin. I must be missing something.

Also this may be a web-dumb question but is there a way to break these forums out of the frame in the Ableton site? It's driving me nuts. thanks

which controls are you missing?

Also, the forum (without frame) can be found by going to www.ableton.com/forum

and also MIDI envelopes?

There seem to be quite a few things you can't midi-assign, when I press my midi map button and anything that isn't blue, basically is what I am talking about. More importantly (to me) is that I can't seem to do things from the menus, like change views or menu commands. Navigating in arrangement view or just getting around in the interface seems like everything is locked down to the mouse in a lot of ways? I'm coming from Digital Performer so maybe I just need to get used to a different way.

As a separate issue, I can't seem to get my midi envelopes to transfer to session view, and I end up having to render all my midi clips to disk to make them into audio or just only use arrangement view (both of which I really don't want to do.) Like I said, I'm assuming it's user error? Hoping? Is this the same thing people are talking about not being able to record MIDI automation? I can record it, I just can't seem to get it to stay.

Thanks for the URL <duh>.

im sure eventually we shall have all the control we need.

in the meantime check out this thread
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30369

there's some lowdown on how to assign shortcuts to the very parameters you mention.
