Hi People,

I am wanting to link two computers (both running Live 5 on Windows XP) via ethernet.

How can I get both computers to be sync'd to the same clock?

MIDI is the answer

There's also Midioverlan if you have your heart set on using ethernet.

Mind you, I tried it between a pc and a mates mac-top and it didn't work (possibly due to bad network settings), and i didn't try to use it/need to use it after that. But you may get it crankin, and if you do, remember to let me know, or i will haunt you ...o o oooO o oo o o o

if your on a mac (PB) - set up a new network and use your airports.
youll be able sync yer clocks - one becomes a slave - wicked stuff for live performaces...

if both sound cards had spdif, couldn't you just sync the computers using word clock?

I don't have my heart on using Ethernet... exactly, it just seemed to be the best approach ) (I am from a computing background though, rather than an audio one!)

There's always nine different ways to skin a cat. I'm wondering what approach would be best.

Would it be possible to have some sort of synth running as the "master", splitting the midi-signal from it into two, and syncing both machines to that signal?

Also, does Live produce a midi signal of any sort that can me used to sync another machine to? Or would would there have to be a '3rd party' generating this signal?

You could set one live machine as the master (turning on sync under midi/sync for the device you wish to send midi clock from)

Then set the other one up as slave, connecting it's midi in to the midi out of the master machine. under midi syn, enable sync for the input you want to recieve midi clock on, under type, choose midi clock.
then close that window.

click the EXT button (near the tempo tap block)
load a loop up on both machines. Hit play on the master. They may be a bit out of sync, depending on the audio driver latency's on the two machines and/or midi latency. To recitify this, you modify the midi sync delay WHILE the two machines are playing. and yes, you can use negative values.

Well thanks for the input!

I actually managed to do what I wanted using just Live, MidiViaNet and MidiYoke - no Midi cables necessary! All seems to be working nicely now.
