Live 4 crashes and the airbag doesn't open

i know , i know... i should upgrade to Live 5 before even thinking about complaining, but i didn't find the time and money yet. if Santa doesn't decide to commit suicide by blowing himself up till Xmas he might do it for me, though.

some months ago i've lost a week's work when Live just crashed, suggesting me to try and save my work, which i did, then wanted to recover a Live Set temporarily saved after the crash, which i allowed it to, only to be presented with a new Live Set with nothing but one audio track in it.

of course i was pissed off, but i thought maybe i did something wrong, so i started from the beginning and forgot the incident.

until right now, when Live crashed again, some minutes ago, asked me to save my work if possible, which i did again, only to find out after restarting that the "recovered" set is again the dreaded new Live Set with nothing but one Audio track in it.

luckily, in the meantime i've lost the habit of praying before going to sleep, and got into the new found, more healthy habit of burning Backup CD's and DVD's instead.

this time i also was presented with a new warning, which i have never seen before, saying something like "Recover *** something .... don't know what, could NOT be found on the hard drive, switching to RAM mode, Live will not be able to recover sets after crashes anymore. If the problem persists after rebooting please contact The Abletons and they will send someone to massage your back as soon as possible." or something like that.

any ideea what's going on ?

I don't know what might be wrong, but I can tell you that it sounds like it sucks.

Luckily Alex only sleeps like 4 hours a day, so maybe he can help you a bit later.

Hi octiliniu,

I'm sorry for this. It is always painful to lost work.

In general when Live is crashing with a serious error message offering you to save your current Live set, it is mostly in a bad state. So it is always hard to save something at this point.

I can only suggest instead of a normal save to use the "Save As" instead of a "normal" save to avoid that you overwrite your Live set.

Concerning this long message you got, this one shows up when there is a problem with the file that Live is using to store undo&redo actions and which is used for document recovering. Until Live 4 we used a operating system function to create/delete this file which sometimes fail for an unknown reason.
This is something we changed with Live 5 and since them we also got much less request about this problem.

Beside that do you have a way to reproduce this crash in Live 4?

regards,
/Alex

P.S. no_barcode, I never sleep this much :)

wow, Alex, you really don't sleep at all , ey ?

thanx for the explanation !
i was also taking my Pc close to its limits, i do it all the time, i'm not allowing it to get lazy and fat, i was using Live all the time, while also surfing, doing image processing in Photoshop, and video editting in Premiere....

... now i'm exagerating, but you get the picture. :-)

anyway, i even disconnect from the internet when i use Live now, and soon i will also upgrade to Live 5, and enjoy its side-airbags and ABS.

thanx for your reply !

how long do you DO sleeping though ?
