i want to be able to listen to my cue track or pre-listening track, but it says i have to connect master to one channel and cue to another. My question is how do i do that my audio interface(mbox) is connected via usb. and rite now i can only select one channel and if i want to change cue or master i can put them on mono but thats makes only one side of the speakers plays at a time

Hi,
I've purchased ableton live 5 as I wish to mix en record sets via my laptop.
What piece of hardware do I need to be able to pre-listen to tracks, to set cue points, to pitch, and to record, etc... (controller, mixer?)
Thanks,
Geoffrey

kevin j: you need two pairs of stereo outs for pre-listen. you aren't going to be able to do this with an mbox since it only has 1 stereo out.

Is it possible to enable a laptop's onboard stereo out using ASIO4ALL when using the Mbox, to allow prelistening via laptop soundcard and use Mbox for main audio outs?
I have searched around on the forum and nobody seems to have a definitive answer on this regarding the Mbox.

Yes you should be able to that, with asio4all you wrap all your drivers in to one, and to Live it then appears as on multi-out device.
Best thing is to cue from the laptop's built-in sound and use the audio interface for the audio out.

Go to the asio4all website... Download the asio4all drivers and then as suggested earlier...

It won't work since you can only choose one soundcard in the live preferences.
You need a proper soundcard with four outs - or you do your mixes in mono ...

With asio4all it will work... I've seen it... plus you can use it to set different buffers/delays for each device so that they can be in sync enough to be useful...

and to do it on a mac, use aggregate sound devices. i have it working fine in live5 right now (it won't work in traktor dj studio for some reason). i set up my internal sound (via coreaudio) routing the cue mix out of my headphone jack on the powerbook and the multimix8 handles the other output.

In a related matter, if anyone using the Terratec DMX 6Fire knows if it's possible to send anything other than the master output to the headphone socket on the breakout box, I'd love to know how to do that
