problems recording mono audio track!

hello everybody... lately my bandmate and me tried to work in live! together for the first time. on his pc (new samung with a tascam us-122 audio interface). in the past we used to work on my notebook, also with an us-122, but using cubase. he only just got live!, so we are basically beginners. a lot is quite easy to learn, but some little things still seem not to work... we had this following problem last night...
we wanted to record a guitar track over a beat loop produced in live!
the problem was that the new audio track with the guitar line on it was a stereo one that only had sound on the left channel. when using my old cubase we also plugged the instruments into the tascam us-122 line in. then we selected MONO AUDIO TRACK and the sound was perfectly mono, sort of in the middle of the pan. in LIVE! we couldn't find the option for recording a new mono audio track. where can we switch to that and how can we avoid having only one-sided audio recordings. it's a bit strange. and it was the same with a microphon plugged into the mic-in of the us-122. i am sure that is not meant to be like that. but we just couldn't fix it... any ideas? thanks for your help!
