is it worth writing electronic music any more? I got into the whole scene after it died down and im not sure if anyone wants to still hear techno and such. Im not worried bout fame or money from it but is the scene big enough for a nobody to get gigs mixing techno, originals and records? I live in cleveland also. I know the scene here isnt the best but its what i got to work with at this point in time. thanx for any input

I'm in favor of techno 'dying'.
Let clearchannel fuck up some other genre like rnb or something.

Let techno fade into the background so that it becomes a quality genre again.

And lower the damn fee's of dj's and performers.
You can buy a small car for the price a decent Live act charges these days around these parts.

Don't get me wrong. I love techno.
But 80% of the released records every week are just plain crap imho.

Techno isn't dead, it just smells funny.

It's funny when people say something is dying. it's only because you stop paying attention. Get with it and make others do the same. You can't kill Techno.

Yeah. They're great. But very expensive. You wont get these guys to do little clubs if the promoter has to make his money back.
Jeff Mills once received 25 000€ for 2 or 3 hour set on "I love techno" (huge indoor festival)
Thats just insane. And that was around the year 2000. When he just performed the same set over and over again.
Last year he rocked though. A new fresh set and sound, mixed with the classics....

The point is... You rarely get the "great" ones to perform in an intimate club, because they are so damn expensive. They only get booked for those huge commercial events.

If it's dead as you say I must've been doing some wikkid necromancy friday night. Innit.

Seriously though, it's as dead as rock'n'roll. Ie., it is in some places...

I do agree with hoffman2k as well, Also think Techno has changed, mutated, evolved, (minimalized?) as everything... good techno will always make people dance! but it's true that the real world is full of crap music, commercial music, and techo is no exception... and we have to agree that not every techno tune that sounded good 10 years ago it will now... people changes as well and so do their tastes... I thought trance was dead (or it was one of my desires, at least -no offenses:twisted:-)... but still there's a lot of peolpe loving that genre, listening and producing it...

It's never really dead though. It just has to die away so it can be revived.
I like the minimal scene like it's going now.
That kinda makes the statement "we're sick of shranz" (i never really like it).
Detroit techno is also still doing fine. Although it could use a boost, because the belleville trio arent going to be around forever.

Thats all just from my point of view though. There are different genres for different tastes. And the scene will be different where you live.

Berlin seems to have a killer scene. One i would love to explore more deeper.

Dead? Hardly. Techno (of the minimal variety at least)is going through something of a golden age right now. Lots of good records coming out, and lots of people going out to parties. People are genuinely excited and enthusiastic about the scene and the music.

Maybe it's dead if you live in small-town America, but can you honestly remember a time when it wasn't?
