Received an email last night (just saw it at 7pm) claiming I had won £141,022!

They used the genuine National Lottery logo and address, etc. But being a cynic, didn't get my hopes up. Just been in contact with the genuine National Lottery and they said it is a hoax email they are currently investigating as they DO NOT contact people by email. Barstewards
Damn! ..........and I had the money spent already..........doh
PS Just had a followup email, they want a verification form filled in with name address, job, etc. and a scanned copy of driving license or other form of national identity...........and will send you some documents to sign. ATTEMPT AT IDENTITY THEFT!!! BEWARE!!!

you know in russia, appearanly you can go to regular markets and buy sheets of paper with full details of peoples identity from anywhere in the world as if you're buying used records.

oh man..... Save it for someone who cares......
I'm sure idiots can avoid such weak attempts at fraud themselves.... If not
they deserve to be scammed.
I get 3000 spam a day, seen it all....
Simple solution..... Don't believe emails ppl you don't know.

Sorry if I came across harsh....
It's just there are probably more then 5 million various scams or hoaxes
based of a small number of different variances of basically the same thing.
If we were to post all of them here we'd crash the server
Basically they are all the same, so just ignore bullshit emails and you're safe.

Yeah..... but really u have to be pretty silly.....
"I will send you a million dollars if you give me your passport number."
If you can't spot that then you really should give them you're passport
number then just kill yourself

uhm, ben, this may be a bit obvious to you, but why do you think they still try to scam people over the internet? Because it works... send out a million emails, you'll get a few hits.
However, if you're smart enough to use a forum, you're prolly smart enough to ignore these.

So now, the lottery is not only a tax on the math-impaired, but it looks like it has also become tax on internet-idiots as well..

I personally know some people that work at my company that are far more capable in many ways than the typical hip youth, yet they fall for all kinds of shit and get their feelings hurt on forums.
Though probably not the kninds of people on this forum!
