Live 5.0.3b7 is online! 5.0.3 release candidate!

Hi folks,

we just uploaded another beta version of the upcoming bug fix update Live 5.0.3.
With this beta we are very close to the final version and still hope to
release Live 5.0.3 before Christmas (which does not mean that we would stop bug fixing)

This beta is free for every Live 5 user.

Please use the following links to download the beta:

Mac: http://www.ableton.com/_common/download ... e503b7.dmg
Win: http://www.ableton.com/_common/download ... e503b7.zip

Please send all beta related feedback to [email protected].

Current version: Live 5.0.3b7
Expire date: 2005-12-27

This versions has also some limitations:
- No manual is included
- No content is included

This version has enabled our bug reporter.
You will notice it when restarting Live after experiencing a crash.

Furthermore the Windows version has additional debug code to dump
information into the log file. Therefore the Windows version is a bit
slower as the final version (something between 5% to 15%).

When starting live 5.0.3b7 for the first time it should open with the Beta
lesson which also contains the change log.

Kind Regards,
Alex

Change log Live Live 5.0.3b6 - 5.0.3b7

-----------------------------------------------------------------
[01] Bug: Sending MIDI Out (OS X)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: OS X only

When sending many MIDI events at the same sample position some could be lost when sending them out via a MIDI interface.

Status: Fixed

-----------------------------------------------------------------
[02] Bug: Sending MIDI Out (Win)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: Win only

Because of bug fix [05] of Live 5.0.3b1 the MIDI out timing via a MIDI interface would be negative influenced on single processor machines.
Meanwhile there is a hotfix for Multi-Processor system available from Microsoft.

Status: Fixed

-----------------------------------------------------------------
[03] Bug: Incoming MIDI
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All

When firing an empty slot in a MIDI track, do a song start, activate global record and arm the MIDI track... Live would crash for the next incoming MIDI event.
Status: Fixed

-----------------------------------------------------------------
[04] Bug: Clip length of recorded clips
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Platform: All

When recording quantized audio session clips with a tempo of 130, the resulting sample can sometimes be one frame too short (because of jitter). In such a case we used to make the resulting loop brace one frame shorter, which is bad, because it results in clips that run out of sync if you play them long enough.
Instead, we leave the loop brace as it is now, so that it extends one frame beyond the end of the sample.
Furthermore, the clip length display of such clips would be incorrect in the Track Status Display and in the Clip Detail view.

Status: Fixed

So does the fourth issue address the uneven loop length issue I have been fighting with or is this something else?

Hi Groovecake,
So does the fourth issue address the uneven loop length issue I have been fighting with or is this something else?
Very probably it (unfortunately) does not but I answer it for sure as we still have problems to reproduce this "uneven clip" behavior.
I will post something concerning this issue in the other thread:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28402

If I play a gig with b6 tonight will it kick me out at midnight?

Just cos 5.02 is just too glitchy at the mo and i don't wanna risk a brand new beta.

Splashmas,

If you start it before midnight it should run but as soon as you start it after midnight it will expire.

Cool.

Just had a bash with b7 and it seems ok.

A 5 hour set should test it eh?

Alex,

I'm still having the preset change crashes in 5.0.3b7 that I reported for 5.0.2 and 5.0.3b6.

This was first described by me here in the "poof" thread:

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30079

the last post in that thread is from someone having the same problems running Windows (I'm on a mac). He wants to know how to find the crash log in windows.

I have sent the .alp file from the crash to you and the beta address.

Hi parma,

it seems we can reproduce one of these crashes but the crash itself happens within a system function and it is not yet clear if it is us, Cycling or OS X.
So this needs much more time to investigate.

/Alex

When recording quantized audio session clips with a tempo of 130,
for risk of sounding stupid... are you saying 130 as an example or did it only happen at 130?

Hello all, just curious. I just purchased Live and installed it. I am now installing the public beta and the beta installs to a different directory than the full Live installation - is this so that when the full 5.03 version is released, it will install to the default full version directory and then I will just need to uninstall the public beta installation?

thanks.

Doc,
Any installation of LIVE will go in a folder named "LIVE "version number"
LIVE 5.03 will make a new folder named "LIVE 5.0.3"
Unused versions can be removed using "add-remove software" item in Control Panel

It could always happen when the length of a recorded clip was not an integer multiple of samples. So it could happened with an other tempo too.

Hi Alex,

Just curious:
Is that jitter of the A/D converters or internal jitter (is there such a thing?).
Is "frame" a SMPTE frame or a single sample?

I am very happy with the new MIDI recording behaviour by the way.
Sehr gut gemacht! :D

Hi, mebe stupid, but i can't seem to remove abe from my pc.
I still get these iritating messages when trying to uninstall.
"can't find install.log" ...and thats strange because the install.log is in the dir of ableton.
A reg fix does not help also.
Any pc guru who can help me out with this?
