Trigger Two Clips at Once?

Is it possible to trigger two clips at the same time (without using the launch scene method).
I have a 4 bar loop and a midi loop of the same length, which sends a message to another application,
The two clips are in different tracks. Is there a way of linking these tracks so that when I trigger one, the other starts as well?

Thanks,

Gav

Depends. You'll need two midi signals, which some controllers provide (cc's and note on at the same time)

But more importantly, a scene with all the launch buttons deactivated and just two clips in it would do fine as well, wouldn't it?

Try a forum search for IAC driver. It can do this and much more.

Perhaps someone can chime in with the PC equivalent.

Hmm but if I use the launch scene method this means I can only play these two clips at once. I want to be able to play them along with other clips

Thanks though. i get your point about sending two midi messages, just thought I might be able to do it within ableton

The IAC driver is still within Live. It is basically a 'virtual' MIDI interface. By sending a chord to the IAC driver track, you can launch as many MIDI-mapped clips as you want simultaneously, as long as they're in different tracks (128 max, actually...). Unlike a scene launch, they don't have to be in the same scene, either, which can be really useful.

you can ctrl-click on clips to multi select them, then hit return to trigger them all. This is probably not as easy as you or I would like it to be. But it's a method.

Obineg, what do you mean? I have re-read machinates post but still don't get it.
If I put the two clips in a scene and launch them via launch scene then how can
I then play two more clips simultaneously residing in a different scene?

isn't there are a simple midi utility that could split a midi signal in 2? something like the midi environment in logic? a software midi splitter/translater?

would be great if i could use one pad on the trigger finger to launch 2 clips...

There's no need for it.
You put 2 clips in a scene. And trigger the scene.
If you remove the stop buttons, then it wont stop the clips that are currently playing.

But if you really want a midi utility. Then check out controlaid (mac)

The IAC driver makes this easy. I've described it above, if that helps.

thanx guys! just tried it, works great :-)

hoffman2k, i've been using those fx liveclips lessons you did. i use them during my dj sets, amazing stuff!
i'm from belgium as well, so let me buy you a drink one of these days :-)

i finally switched from using pioneer cdjs to dj-ing with ableton. it's just perfect. maybe i should share my way of doing it here...
