this is great! it's usually not my style of music, but it's done very nicely, with a lot of care. quite bizare track selection... it was autechre's bass cadet ep (i think) that kept me listening, and i'm glad i did. the second half of the set is superbly eclectic, more my kind of stuff than the hiphoppy first half. still, liked it all the way through.
some very clever stuff, like that pitched up voice section. great!

I gave it a listen last night. Good times for sure.
A real monolithic work, I only got 1/3 of the way through it. Not because it was bad or I was bored, I just had other things to do. But, considering the length of the mix, listening to a 1/3 of it was a pretty good chunk of time.
I kept thinking, if I walked into a club and that was playing, I'd think it was a pretty happening spot.
Didn't like? Well, I'm a sucker for variety. Not that your mix lacked changes and interesting events, but I like to be thrown off guard. I like the concept of a mash-up/re-mash being two or more elements put together that make strange bedfellows, yet working somehow. It also lacked dramatic shifts in tempo / mood / feel. Now when you're shaking your butt poolside in Manilla, dramatic shifts may not be what you want. But listening at home on headphones could call for a tad more variety.
I guess it depends on who your audience is.
Cool stuff though. I never do stuff like that with Ableton. Makes me wanna pretend I'm a DJ and get my warp on.

Great mix! Thanks for that. You've opened my eyes... err... ears to some fantastic new stuff.
What's the funky track at 27:00?
Even better for us learners, could you provide a track listing?
Thanks again!

This has really changed my impression of DJing, and mash-ups in particular.
They really CAN be talented and tasteful, and not just mindless "bangin' choons."
Thanks again!

comosta! i read your comments on a friends wi-fi'd laptop with my feet in the sand on white beach in boracay at 6:30 am!! (i'll post pics soon) a great end to a fantastic night. thankyou so much for your lovely feedback. not enough negative stuff though... come on people! take it apart!
hambone, at 40:30 theres 2 tracks playing, 'Fifths' by SKI & CMT (Jazzanova 6 sickth mix) and 'Just friends' by Richard X. at 27:00 yes its orange alert, with 'slow down' by sway de safo. i'll put a tracklisting up as soon as i get back to tokyo. cheers!
hartsta, share it! spread the love!!!
paws, i have it on good authority that you don't suck! i wanna hear what you're up to these days. link me some nu stuff!
sales dude, 'monolithic', wow thanks mate! try listening all the way through, theres more variety than you think! its just not all on the surface, like when vanity 6 'nasty girl' kicks in, 'dog days' by matthew dear and the unknown dj's '808 beats' are both playing but its not easy to hear (in fact no-one i've played it to noticed that yet!). i wanted to be eclectic as possible without scaring the girls (!) i appreciate what you're saying about tempo changes, but it is meant for dancing (not neccesarily in a club) so i wanted to tempo to shift smoothly (apart from the intro where it goes from about 75 to 90 in a few bars) to keep the ass moving. i don't wanna confuse the ass (not yet anyway)... i asked for negative feedback! thanks for bringing it!
i'm gonna play it at hey jude's tonight, best sound system on the beach! mirror balls hanging from the palm trees!! how fucking disco is that!!!
love,
j x

played ilovesurprises on the beach yesterday. just slipped it in, drank some mushroom tea and watched the sunset swirl. magic! we had girls in bikinis making sandwiches on the dancefloor, an aussie breaking crew doing capoeira, and a 6 ft ladyboy with fire poy! mental!!
i also played our previous mix,
www.musicfromspeakers.com/mp3s/ilovedisko.mp3
the breakers loved it!
let me know if you've listened to either mix in any strange situations/places
happy nu year!
p.s. i was just thinking about trying to do this mix in any other daw, it just wouldn't have happened without live. damn ilove this program!
