my computer restarted it self out of the blue and when rebooting i got this blue screen saying smth about drivers and shit.

any of you know what's this all about?

i also get this supposedly technical information:

Code: Select all

***STOP: 0x000000c5 (0x53646156. 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8054B907)
then it says it's beginning dump of physical memory.

it's not the first time this happend but i'm beginning to worry.

What operating system are you using?

that's an XP message.

Could be:

* bad ram
* corrupt drivers
* failing hardware

Can you please remove every bit of hardware that you have attached via firewire or USB, if that doesn't stop the screen, and you are on a desktop machine.. could you please try removing all cards from your motherboard as well one by one with a bootup in between each removal.

Just don't remove your graphics card ;-)

do i really need to do all that? i don't have anything connected via usb/firewire and it just seems a pain in the ass to remove everything.

am i risking smth bad by not doing this?

no risk at all.

if it is something which is failing, you could help identify it at this point as opposed to when you really need your computer to work.

how about pasting the whole error message or references to filenames or specific drivers... (something.VXD perhaps??)

i can't paste it cuz i'm not getting that message anymore. the code i copied on a piece of paper. thought it was the most important thing.

there's usually more info to follow those numbers. such as...
"DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL"

next time you get a BSOD just google the first bit (STOP 0x000000C5) and the actually error that happens (DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL)

it's hard to say exactly what your problem was with just the first set of numbers only. but i did find this for STOP 0x000000C5:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291810&sd=RMVP

good luck.

i think the deal was that i had just installed kaspersky 2006 beta (having used v5 pro before). it was supposed to be lighter on the cpu, scan faster etc. but after that everything went sour. games starting giving out the weirdest error messages, the comp would reboot whenever it felt like it, blah.

got back to my trusty kasapersky pro 5. fuck beta.
