1in 4 mp3s fails to load properly

Apologies if this has already come up.
Can anyone shed light on this? One in four of the full-length tune mp3s I am loading into Live 5.0.2 appears to go through the loading process correctly in terms of time, but produces a blank waveform in the clip view and obviously is silent when played. The mp3 plays fine in all other packages and was encoded directly from an original CD using Lame on Steinberg my mp3 4.0
The length in mm:ss is read correctly however and if I "Edit" it the waveform directly from Live or otherwise appears correctly in Wavelab and it plays just fine in that editor. If I re-encode from Wavelab the mp3 loads fine.
Anyone else got problems loading mp3s?
